From the time Susie was a little girl, she knew that God wanted her to be a teacher, and she testifies that her desire to teach has never wavered. When asked why she loves to teach, Susie responded with:  “I love being able to be involved in the lives of young people, to train and educate them, but also to impact them for Christ and eternity. All of our students learn differently, and it is a joy for me as a teacher to evaluate and help each student figure out how best they will learn.  It is extremely rewarding to watch a student dig deeper than they thought they could and push themselves farther than they wanted to.”  Susie attended Maranatha Baptist University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on elementary education.   Susie also earned a double minor in English and Bible.  After college, Susie moved to North Carolina to teach, and while there, she met and married her husband Caleb, the current Athletic Director here at SFCS.  In 2011, God moved the Dickens back to SFCS where Susie currently teaches high school English and music.  Susie also heads up our yearbook, journalism, ACT preparatory classes, our school programs and is also a key contributor to the SFCS drama department.  Susie finds comfort in the promises of God found in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you”, says the Lord.  “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
